Black Women Are...

Powerful. Resilient. Strong.

Intelligent.Determined. Graceful.

ambitious. hard-working. irreplaceable. beautiful.

A couple months back I posted to twitter "Guys tell me what you like about black women". The words above are a few of the heart-warming responses I received. Although, they're merely a snippet from a never-ending list that describes God's gift to earth: the black woman.

It's March 1st, which means it's the first day of an entire month solely dedicated to commemorating women. So appropriately placed directly after Black History month, it gives me a reason to celebrate myself (and other black women) for two whole months (even though I do this all-year-long as is).

I always say that before anything else, I am black. When people outside of the African-American community look at me, they see a black woman, not a woman who is black. Meaning, my skin color is the first thing they notice. Not to mention the fact that since the beginning of the feminist movement, black women have rarely, if ever, been included in the plight of fighting for women's equality. It goes without saying that feminism for Black women and feminism for White women are 2 completely separate entities. I don't label myself as a feminist per say, but this is all the more reason for us to be uplifting each other as much as humanely possible. And I'm not saying we have to be all "kumbaya", because I would be a hypocrite if I did, but I am avidly making an effort to spread positivity and love amongst my fellow black Queens, whether it be online or in real life.

I believe that there is literally nothing Black women can't do when we come together. There's power in numbers and when we join forces with a unified motive, magic happens. Even though there has been a recent wave of Black women being supportive of each other, we can certainly use more of it to cancel out those that are constantly trying to bring us down. So we need to collectively celebrate ourselves this month ladies, and every other month... because if we don't, who will?

"I'm convinced that we Black women possess a special indestructible strength that allows us to not only get down, but to get up, to get through, and to get over."

-Janet Jackson

Happy (Black) Women's History Month!❤
