Push Through

Whether you're a creative, dreamer, or pretty much anyone that requires some sort of inspiration or motivation to fuel their passion, the lack there of can be really stifling and have you feeling somewhat lost and hopeless. Which then leaves you rationalizing reasons to NOT get work done and feeling insanely guilty and inadequate (and hating yourself a little bit for not being as productive as Beyoncé).

Over the past few weeks I've been struggling to find both the motivation and inspiration that I need to get things done. I've literally been doing the bare minimum. I haven't given much of my attention to ideas I had in mind or projects that I was working on prior to being subjected to this rut. I've been feeling very... empty you could say.

With that being said, I know I'm not alone. I know many creatives can go through this phase at one point or another (even Beyoncé) and I just wanted to reassure you that you aren't alone either. Some may be in really low spirits with literally no desire to do anything. Others may just be feeling really empty and in desperate need of being recharged. Whatever the reason is for this disheartening feeling, you don't have to let it overpower you and there are ways to overcome.

I believe the key to breaking out of this is knowing what sources you once drew inspiration from and how to channel that inspiration. For some that could be meeting new people and picking their brains. Socially connecting with others can reenergize you and help get your creative juices flowing again. While for others, it can be something as simple as browsing the internet and social media. Ask yourselves: what encourages you to move forward? What makes you happy? What do you live for? What were you doing the last time you did feel inspired? What gets you out of bed every morning? Without over-analyzing it, write down every single thing that comes to mind.

Now, make a conscious effort to do these activities on your list every single day for at least an hour. There'll be a huge difference in how much more driven and productive you feel. We draw energy from the things that inspire us, therefore we need to be doing them as frequently as possible.

We have more control over our lives than we think. If you don't like the space that you're in, make an effort in changing it. Life can get overwhelming and these creative blocks are sometimes inevitable but we are not defined by them. Take action, push through, and don't let it get the best of you.
